Best Way To Keep A Competitive Edge

1. Keep up with what's going on in your industry. If you are in the stock market, stay on top of the latest stocks and the market, if in technology know the latest and greatest technology. Make contacts with as many people as you can, you never know when you are going to need them or when you can help a friend who needs a job (especially in the Silicon Valley).

2. If you know what you're talking about, then there's never a reason to lie or make anything up.

3. Plan ahead. Stick to the plan.

4. To keep up with the competition, one must be able to read the market trend.

5. Hold onto that niche. If you have a good idea that is being well received, keep a tight grip on it. Also, don't procrastinate. Procrastination is the difference between just having a good idea and having enormous success. You won't ever find out how good an idea is until you just do it.

6. I learned the invaluable tool of directness and borderline rapier assertiveness in business dealings. Listen to everyone's opinion, but never assume they are unbiased or self-interested.

7. Always stay ahead of your opponent and think about their next move before they make it. Always be sincere, yet tenacious at the same time.

8. The key to a success in business is working with the right people. Make sure that you seek these people out and do everything that you can to retain them.

9. We conduct ourselves in a very professional manner and understand that making our clients happy is what keeps us in business.

10. I hate it when people don't keep up with the times in their respective fields. It bothers me.

Practical Advice

1. Never give up no matter what obstacles stand in your way. Surround yourself with positive people. You don't want to be surrounded by people who will bring you down.

2. Have a balanced life, give everything you do 100%, never be a quitter, eat healthy and exercise, meditation and yoga are great, but so are going out and laughing and having a good time with friends.

3. Always assume that whoever you're dealing with knows as much, or more, than you. Then, plan accordingly and try and stay two steps ahead in the thinking process.

4. Never underestimate anyone, and don't be afraid to take control.

5. If you want something done right - do it yourself.

6. There is no substitute for professionalism.

7. Be organized, and if you can't, hire someone who can.

8. Never underestimate yourself and your abilities.

9. Be careful as to not treat human beings as a means to an end (happens more often than not), because human beings are ends-in-themselves.

10. Always be optimistic and never give up.

Great advice, aint it.
